Test fees

The normal fee for belt exams is $25, which includes belt and diploma if applicable. Stripes are attached to the old belt and an official diploma will be issued only for advances in kyu grade, for instance yellow, orange etc.  When an advance is made with a stripe a certificate acknowledging the accomplishment will be issued.

First time testers are encouraged to become members of the USJI.  A yearly membership in the USJI currently runs $50 and allows the member participation in competitions, a small secondary health insurance, and includes the bi-monthly “Real Judo” magazine.  Most of all, it supports judo in the USA and strengthens your club's representation in the FJI, the Florida Judo organization.

Technique Related Criteria

Tachi waza

·        Proper kuzushi and proper kumikata

·        Tori’s foot placement appropriate for throw

·        Tori has good balance during throw

·        Ability to throw while in motion

·        Proper timing of throw with speed adjusted to uke's speed

·        Tori uses bodyweight optimally during technique

·        Proper removal of uke's points of support

·        Tori shows good control over uke and tightness throughout technique

General

·        Tori can show techniques in multiple directions.

·        BE AWARE that every successive belt requirement is in addition to the previous one.  That is, in an orange belt test, the techniques required for yellow belt may also be asked.

·        BE AWARE that all the aforementioned criteria will have a greater weight with each move up in rank.  For instance at the yellow belt level throws are acceptable mainly to one side and standing still.  The same throws at a higher level need to be demonstrated more and more from motion and to left and right.
