Press release 3/2/2006 Atlantic Beach judo club produces 4 state champs. At last Sunday's state championships in Orlando athletes from Judo Ryu Jacksonville continued their winning season. Coach Fiege: " This time we brought 5 judokas ranging in age from 10 to 47 years old. Our youngsters did great with Harley Mueller (10) winning gold, Harry Glasser (10) winning gold and bronze, and Tyler Holt (14) silver. All 3 had some beautiful throws and pins. They all fought hard especially Harry with 10 fights today. We're closing in on the South Florida teams that are number one in the country." Two gold medals were won by John Fiege (39) in the masters and the seniors. Roland Garcia (47) fought well and won a bronze in the master. Coach Fiege: " We have a strong group of judokas over 30 years old at our dojo. We do it for fun, we keep each other in shape and we enjoy teaching the young talents. But we still test ourselves in competitions and it sure feels good that with our experience we can still beat the 21 year olds." Next up are an Orlando invitational tournament featuring a college team from Japan and the senior nationals in Houston. For one week only free judo-selfdefense classes are available for beaches residents starting Monday March 6th.
