October class schedule:
Monday 10/1, Tuesday 10/2 no Thursday.Monday 10/22, Tuesday 10/23 no Thursday
Then regular Mon/Thur schedule for the rest of the month.
Change is good! Expect some Changes in the Classschedule to be announced shortly.
Changes will be made in the starting times of several classes to allow a class to be added. The 6.30 beginners class will at that time be split up in two levels: a true beginnersclass and a more advanced class. This will tailor the instruction more to the individual needs of all the students and help us manage the growth of our club better. The days will stay the same but the times have not been finalized.
Related to above: there are three more initiatives that will be announced in the near future. These initiatives are meant to enrich the judo curriculum and give students choices
in the way they want to study the art.
- Once a month retired police officer Dr. Greg DiFranza, internationally aclaimed instructor of police survival tactics and also a black belt in judo for over 25 years will conduct a judo as a selfdefense seminar.
- John Cowling, Nidan will conduct technique ‘workshops’ to help students prepare for belt tests.
- A competition team will be started, led by sensei John Fiege and sensei Hiram Cruz. Part of this initiative will be a drill class with drills designed to increase strength, endurance and coordination. This is a part where everybody that applies will be accepted to join. Your initial fitness level will be tested and from there with the right commitment and a little time we can promise you great gains. In addition there will be extra time for randori, explanation of competition rules and judo tactics for those students that make it on the competition team. To make the team, a certain level of fitness is required combined with perfect attendance in regular class and drill class.
This initiative is intended to give the sincere and committed students an outlet to make greater gains in less time in their judo and a way to fast track their competition career. More details will follow but all are encouraged to apply at this time. Even though in class you may feel there are many students stronger or better, when you compete you fight people your own weight, age and sex. So this initiative is meant for age 6 and up at every level, you can only get better and every serious student can make the team.
Competition News:
- Sensei Hiram Cruz will travel this week to Las Vegas to compete in the US Open. Two years ago he won this event and he is a favorite now. The highest placed US player will travel in November to the Pan American championships in Argentina. Let’s all support this great athlete, it is so rare for a small club to be represented by such a tremendous competitor. Good luck, Tonka!
- Connor Hickey just had his first taste of competition this weekend. He won a bronze medal at the Champion Open Judo Tournament in Ocoee, FL and gained valuable experience.
- Greg DiFranza also competed in Orlando this weekend. He won a silver medal at the Champion Open Judo Tournament in Ocoee, FL.

October dues
October has rolled around already, please remember to pay tuition before the 10th and you will avoid a late fee. Reminder to new students that started in august: your tuition is due this month. Paying for three months at a time will save you at least 15%.
New students that started in September do not have to pay until next month.
